Today we continued discussing creating expressions based on patterns.
Tonight's assignment is to create your own pattern and the accompanying expression.
Please make sure your pattern works for several terms!

We are continuing to look at patterns and how we can create a rule for a pattern.
Today we collectively discovered 2N +3 for the pattern we looked at.
Homework is to come up with a rule for the second pattern on the handout.
Remember! Communicate with words, numbers and pictures.

Playing assessment tomorrow!
- B-flat concert scale (scale, arpeggio and thirds)
- One piece of your choice.

Report cards went home today.
Please return the signature portion and the envelope in the next few days.
Everyone planning on going to the ROC on Friday MUST have a Special Winter Excursion Consent form signed. I have spoken to those students who still do not have one handed in.
Book trailers are due tomorrow!
Please refer to our checklist (earlier blog post) to ensure you have done your very best!

We have started a questions and wonderings page as an ongoing document throughout our First Nations Relations literature study. Please keep adding questions as they come up in conversation and reading. During our time in the forest some great conversation came out about civilization and how we define it. Continue this conversation...

- Your book trailer is due Thursday. Don't leave it until the last minute! Perhaps set aside some time this weekend to work on it. Remember the checklist we created together is on an earlier blog post.

Field trip!

Today an additional consent form went home. This form must be signed in order to participate.

Today we began our literacy study to follow up The Blanket Exercise. We will be looking at a variety of articles and books to raise and discuss issues facing Canada and our First Nations relations.
For today's article:
1. What is your opinion on Adam Nordwall's statement and actions?
2. What are your thoughts on the political cartoon? How was the cartoonist able to make such a strong statement with so few words?
Math
Checkpoints were returned today.
Final assessment on Geometry tomorrow.

Can you bisect four adjoining angles in an "x" formation using four compass arcs and two lines.

Book Trailers
Due: Feb 16th

- Eye catching visuals that are relevant to the book
- Create suspense - hints to the plot
- No spoilers! Don't give too much of the plot away
- Lead the viewer of your trailer to want to read the book
- Audio - appropriate music
- Text - not too much - catchy short phrases
- Introduce: characters, plot, settting

Today we talked about similar figures vs. congruent figures and enlargements and reductions in similar figures. Follow up - text pg 244.
For tomorrow remember:
-How to classify triangles,
-How to construct triangles,
-similar vs. congruent figures and scale factor

These were the descriptions we were given at the start of the book. We learned in the book "everyone has a story" so now that we know the stories behind these young people, how would you describe them? Write a new 3-5 word description for each of the above characters and follow up your new description with an explanation as to why you chose that description.
