Today we watched a documentary about sugar, its effects on the body and the sugar industry.
Talk with your family about what you learned.

Math
Probability final assessments were returned today.
We are working on area and perimeter of composite shapes.
There will be a checkpoint on Wednesday.

Science

This weekend:
  • Talk with your family about what we are learning from the book Because of Mr. Terupt
    • What happens when you only get one perspective on a story?
  • Continue working on revising your Poem of Me. Next week we start a new poem.
  • We handed in our first RINGO assignment today - but keep reading and working towards your next task.
  • History - Famous Canadian research project is due on Monday
  • Remember our Holiday Concert is Monday at 6:30. We need all of your props for our tableau.
  • Get outside and enjoy the snow!

Our first Ringo Independent Reading task is due tomorrow.
Remember - you do not have to complete a line - just one task.
Please bring in your Independent Reading duo-tangs, with your first completed task in it, to hand in.

Air Band
Class competition is next Wednesday!

Sadly, our concert was cancelled for tonight.
BUT! It has been rescheduled for Monday night - the show will go on!

Try to get out and enjoy this beautiful snow!!!

Air Band!
Our class air band competition will take place next Wednesday Dec 21st.
Let's make sure the grade sevens bring it!!
The Highview finals are on Friday Dec 23rd.

Math
Today, we reviewed the formulas for area of a rectangle, parallelogram, and a triangle.
More importantly, we figured out why and how those formulas came to be.
Homework: teach someone at home what we learned today.

Drama
We will rehearse our tableau tomorrow.
Please make sure you have all of the props that you need.

Literacy
We continue to revise our "Poem of Me"
Make sure you have written in: simile/metaphor, alliteration,and exaggeration.

We are also working on the ending. Make sure the audience knows that your poem is over without the poet saying “The End”. It needs to end with a bang so the audience feels “wow”.

Math
We have started a new unit on measurement.
Tonight - figure out the area and perimeter of the front A/V table in our classroom.
Remember:
-the tables are placed together in a "T" shape.
-we measured the long side of each table at 150cm and the short side of each table at 75cm

Literacy
Poetry Slam - writing your "Me" poem.
It should start:"You don't know me, but if you did,  you'd know that..."
I'll be asking for volunteers to read tomorrow.
The more you get use to reading and performing for the class, the easier it gets.

Drama
Please bring in all props for our tableau.
We will practice again on Wednesday.

History

Literacy
The final copy of your Orbiting Jupiter essay is due tomorrow.
Please hand in a paper copy.
Don't forget to use our editor's checklist and have as many people as possible proofread your work.
  • Full sentences (ending in punctuation)
  • Proper use of capital letters
  • Proper grammar
  • Varied vocabulary
  • Avoid run-on sentences
  • Spelling!!!
  • Five paragraphs
Remember - your first RINGO independent reading task is due next Friday December 16.
You should be reading every night.

Please look at my comments and revise accordingly.
Remember! I did not edit for grammar, spelling etc.
Refer to the editing checklist we created and have multiple people read over your work as editors.
Final copy of essay is due - (paper copy please) - on Friday.

Final assessment on probability is this Friday. Textbook review options are in chapter 12

Highview Holiday Heroes!
Can you be a Highview Holiday Hero?
Could you pick up a gift for someone your age to share?
Until December 16th, we will be collecting gifts (pj's are a favourite) to share with people our own age.

Highview Holiday Concert
Our concert will be on December 15th in the evening. Our class will be performing a tableau.
Consider any small props that you may be able to add to our scenes and bring them starting on Monday.

Today I handed out our Independent Reading package.
Please explain to your family at home what this is all about.
Remember:
- you should be reading daily
- a RINGO task will be due every two weeks
- the first one will be due December 16th

Next week we will begin a new book together.
