If You Plant a Seed - Writing Assignment

If you plant a seed…

“ If you plant a seed of selfishness, in a very short time, it will grow and grow and grow into a heap of trouble. But if you plant a seed of kindness, in almost no time at all, the fruits of kindness will grow, and grow, and grow, and they are very sweet.”Kadir Nelson

Your challenge is write a story based on the following sentence as a starter: If you plant a seed of ______ then _______, but if you plant a seed of _______ then _________. You may not use “selfishness” and “kindness” as your seeds. Choose something new - something you are familiar with - something you can give advice on.

Consider your purpose and audience. You are offering life advice to others your own age. Teach them why one seed is a better choice over the other.

Your story can be told in one of three ways:
  1. In the style of a graphic novel
  2. As a word document
  3. As a picture book

Drafts are due for feedback on Wednesday Sept. 21st
Final due date: Wednesday Sept 28th
